Jonathan Koch (* 29. October 1985 in Giessen ) is a German lightweight - rowers .

Jonathan Koch started for the Gießener Rowing Society 1877 until the end of 2010 . In the summer of 2010 he started to train at the Mainz rowing club from 1878 under the direction of national trainer Robert Sens . He has officially started for the MRV since 2011.

After he had only reached the small final at the World Championships in 2006, Koch managed to move into the singles final in Munich in 2007 , where he finished fourth. Since the lightweight single is not an Olympic boat class, Koch competed in a double scull with Manuel Brehmer in 2008 . In this boat class, the two achieved the Olympic qualification. They came in ninth place in Beijing.

After a break in the post-Olympic season, Jonathan Koch started again in the lightweight single and lightweight quad sculls at the Rowing World Championships in New Zealand in November 2010. While he was world champion in quadruples, he missed the finals in single and finished eighth. At the German Championships in 2011, Koch won the title in the lightweight singles and in the lightweight quadruples. and repeated the eighth placement at the World Championships . At the 2012 Summer Olympics , he took part as a substitute for the light scullers, but without being used.

In 2013 he won bronze in the lightweight single at the European Championships . In 2014 Koch switched to the lightweight four without a helmsman and won his first international medal in this boat class at the 2016 European Championships . Three months later, the four finished ninth at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . The last time the easy four-man was held at the 2017 World Championships , he won the bronze medal.
