The rowing competition in the lightweight foursome without a helmsman as part of the rowing regatta of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was held from 6 to 11 August 2016 in the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon . 52 athletes in 13 teams competed.

The competition, which was held over the Olympic rowing distance of 2000 meters, began with three preliminary runs with four or five teams each. The first, second and third placed teams in the preliminary runs qualified directly for the semi-finals, while the remaining four teams had to go to the repechage . Here the first three teams qualified again for the semi-finals. In the two rounds of the semi-finals, the top three teams qualified for the final, while the fourth to sixth placed teams rowed for 7th to 12th place in the B final. In the final on August 11th, six teams competed for Olympic medals.

The rules of lightweight rowing applied to this competition . This means that one to two hours before each race the participants were weighed in the presence of a competition judge. Individual rowers were not allowed to weigh more than 72.5 kg, while the team average was not allowed to exceed 70.0 kg. A team in which both conditions were not met for all rowers at the same time would not have been allowed to continue to participate in the competition.

The teams qualified for the next round are highlighted in light green.

The world and European champions from Switzerland won the competition with Lucas Tramèr , Simon Schürch , Simon Niepmann and Mario Gyr ahead of the Danish selection. The Danish easy four has won the sixth medal at the sixth Olympic edition of this competition. France took bronze.

As the first-placed team in the qualification regatta in Lucerne, a Russian rowing team was qualified for the lightweight four-man competition without a helmsman. Inside were Maksim Telitsyn , Alexander Bogdashin , Alexander Tschaukin and Alexei Wikulin reported. In the course of the publication of the McLaren report in the Russian state doping affair on July 18, however, numerous Russian rowers were banned from the Olympic Games by the World Rowing Association, so that Russia could no longer fill the easy four. Greece moved up based on the results of the qualification regatta in Lucerne.
