The rowing competition in the women's quadruple sculls as part of the rowing regatta of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was held from 6 to 11 August 2016 in the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon . 28 athletes in seven teams competed.

The competition, which was held over the Olympic rowing distance of 2000 meters, began with two preliminary runs. The first-placed teams qualified directly for the final, all others had to go to the repechage . Here the first four of five boats qualified for the final. In the finals on August 11th, six teams competed for Olympic medals. The final had to be postponed by one day due to bad weather conditions.

The teams qualified for the next round are highlighted in light green.

The German rowers Annekatrin Thiele , Carina Bär , Julia Lier and Lisa Schmidla won the gold medal and confirmed their role as favorites in the competition. In the final, however, the Polish team led for a long time, eventually winning the bronze medal behind the Dutch women. The defending champions from Ukraine finished fourth in their new composition, the world champion from the United States, who had also been replaced, came fifth.
