Anne Katrin Thiele (* 18th October 1984 in Sangerhausen ) is a German Skull - rower and Olympic champion . She won Olympic gold in a quadruple scull in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Career

Annekatrin Thiele started at the Roßleben rowing club , where she also attended the Roßleben monastery school up to the 10th grade , but is now starting for the RG Wiking Leipzig at the SC DHfK Leipzig and trains with Angelika Noack. After winning medals in the under-23 age group, she went to the 2006 World Championships as a substitute scooter. At the 2008 Olympic Games , Annekatrin Thiele and Christiane Huth competed in a double scull. The two qualified with a third place at the World Cup in Munich and a second place on the Rotsee near Lucerne. After a photo finish in Beijing, the two lost to New Zealand defending champions Georgina and Caroline Evers-Swindell by a hundredth of a second . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , she won the silver medal in the double fours together with Britta Oppelt , Carina Bär and Julia Richter . A year later, at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju , they won gold. In 2014 Annekatrin Thiele and Carina Bär, together with Julia Lier and Lisa Schmidla, once again won gold in the double fours. In 2015 the German quadruple with Annekatrin Thiele, Carina Bär, Marie-Cathérine Arnold and Lisa Schmidla won the title at the European Championships , at the World Championships they received the silver medal behind the US double quad. At the start of the 2016 Olympic season, Thiele, Bär, Arnold and Schmidla defended the title at the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel . At the Olympic Games Thiele, Bär, Julia Lier and Schmidla rowed in the German quadruple and won the title ahead of the Dutch women.

In 2017 Thiele competed in the single and won the bronze medal at the European Championships . At the world championships , she missed the A final and finished tenth. The year 2018 began for Thiele with her fourth victory at the German Small Boat Championships . At the World Championships she reached the A-final in the same year and was sixth in the single. After Thiele broke a rib in March 2019, she was unable to defend her German championship title. She was not nominated for the European Championships because of the short preparation time. The deficit in training was also noticeable at the 2019 World Championships . Thiele finished 13th with a victory in the C final.

On November 1, 2016, she was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for her athletic achievements .
