Kerstin Kowalski , formerly Kerstin El-Qalqili (born January 25, 1976 in Potsdam-Babelsberg ) is a former German rower .
At the Summer Olympics in 2000 and 2004 , she won gold with the double foursome. She and her twin sister Manja Kowalski won the Sydney 2000 gold medal . In addition, Kerstin El-Qalqili was world champion at the open world championships in 1999, 2001 and 2002 (she won the junior world championships in 1994, those of the under-23s in 1995, 1996 and 1997). During her career, she mostly rowed gold medals at world championship races, only at her world championship race in Milan in 2003 it was only enough for the bronze medal in quadruples. She is considered the best batting woman in the scull area worldwide .
For her athletic achievements she received the Silver Laurel Leaf on February 2, 2001 on the Petersberg . At the award ceremony by Federal President Johannes Rau , she gave the acceptance speech for the decorated medal winners of the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games.
She is the former wife of the rower Iradj El-Qalqili .
