Zhang Xiuyun

Zhang Xiuyun ( Chinese  张秀云 ; born February 25, 1976 in Wuhai ) is a former Chinese rower .

Athletic career

Zhang Xiuyun won at the age of 17 years a world title in the adult area, as they at the 1993 World Championships in Račice u Štětí along with Cao Mianying , Gu Xiaoli and Liu Xirong in quadruple sculls won ahead of the boats from Germany and the United States. In 1994 in Indianapolis , the German quadruple won ahead of Cao Mianying, Liu Xirong, Zhang Xiuyun and Zhao Guifeng . The following year, Zhang finished fifth in the double sculls and seventh in the double sculls at the World Championships in Tampere . Even with the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta Zhang Xiuyun approached in two boat classes. In the double scull, Cao Mianying and Zhang Xiuyun won silver behind Canadians Kathleen Heddle and Marnie McBean . One day later, Cao Mianying, Zhang Xiuyun, Liu Xirong and Gu Xiaoli took fifth place in the double fours, less than a second behind the second placed Ukrainians.

After a year break, Zhang Xiuyun took sixth place in the double scull and fourth place in the double scull at the 1998 World Championships in Cologne . At the end of 1998 she won the Asian Games in one . At the 1999 World Championships in St. Catharines , she finished fifth with a double scull , the Chinese double scull with Liu Lin and Zhang Xiuyun won silver behind the Germans Kathrin Boron and Jana Thieme . In 2000, Zhang Xiuyun competed in the first two World Cup regattas, but not in the Olympic Games. It wasn't until 2002 that she was active again in the World Cup. At the 2002 World Championships , she finished fourth in the single. At the Asian Games in 2002 she won in a single and together with Yang Cuiping in a double without a helmsman . In 2003, as in the previous year, she reached the singles final at the World Championships and finished fifth. In 2004 she competed in the World Cup, but like 2000 not in the Olympic Games.

After a World Cup start in 2006, Zhang Xiuyun again competed in a complete World Cup season in 2007 and then finished fifth in the single at the World Championships . At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , Zhang Xiuyun competed twelve years after her silver medal from Atlanta in the singles and finished fourth. After fifth place in the single at the 2009 World Championships and fourth place in 2011 , she took part in the Olympic Games in London for the third time in 2012 and finished sixth in the single. In 2013, Zhang Xiuyun's international career ended.
