Manja Kowalski

Manja Kowalski (born January 25, 1976 in Potsdam ) is a former German rower who became Olympic champion in 2000.

The rower from the Potsdamer Ruder-Gesellschaft was Junior World Champion in double sculls in 1993 , after having finished second in double sculls in 1992 ; In 1994 she took second place with the double foursome. It then took Manja Kowalski a few years before she asserted herself in the adult class. In 1999 she won the German championship in double sculls together with Kathrin Boron . At the world championship, however, Jana Thieme was in double sculls with Kathrin Boron, while Manja Kowalski was only nominated as a substitute rower. In 2000 Manja Kowalski won the double fours championship and qualified for the Olympic Games . There she won gold together with Meike Evers , Manuela Lutze and her twin sister Kerstin Kowalski with a two-second lead over the British, who were a hundredth of a second ahead of the Russians. In 2001 Manja Kowalski won her second championship title in double fours and at the World Championships on the Rotsee near Lucerne she won together with Marita Scholz , Peggy Waleska and Manuela Lutze. In 2002, the protégé of trainer Jutta Lau ended his career.
