Sybille Schmidt

Sybille Schmidt (born August 31, 1967 in Apolda ) is a former German rower . In 1992 she was Olympic champion in the quadruple scull .

Schmidt started at SC Dynamo Berlin and joined SC Berlin after the fall of the wall , she trained under Sabine Dähne . In 1987 she won a GDR championship title in the four-four for the first time. In 1989 the GDR double scull with Jutta Behrendt , Jana Thieme , Sybille Schmidt and Kathrin Boron became world champions. The following year, the boat was able to defend the title with a new line-up with Kerstin Köppen , Sybille Schmidt, Claudia Krüger and Jana Sorgers . A year later the boat started with the same crew for the reunified Germany and won the world championship again. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , the boat made up of Kerstin Müller , Sybille Schmidt, Birgit Peter and Kristina Mundt won gold with a four-second lead over the Romanians.
