Sophie Souwer (born June 29, 1987 in Westervoort ) is a Dutch rower .

Athletic career

The 1.85 m tall Sophie Souwer began rowing in 2007, and did not begin her international career until 2013. At the European Championships in 2013 , the Dutch quadruple with Wianka van Dorp , Sophie Souwer, Lisa Scheenaard and Nicole Beukers won the silver medal behind the German boat. At the 2013 World Championships , the Dutch boat with Chantal Achterberg took fourth place for van Dorp. In 2014 Souwer rowed in the Dutch eighth , who finished fourth at the European Championships . At the 2014 World Championships , the Dutch eighth missed the A final and ultimately finished eighth. In 2015 the eighth with Sophie Souwer won the silver medal at the European Championships behind the Russians. At the end of the season, the eighth finished sixth at the 2015 World Championships and thus missed the direct Olympic qualification. In the 2016 Olympic season, the Dutch eighth won the World Cup regatta in Varese. After finishing second at the European Championships, the crew in Lucerne qualified as the last boat for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There the Dutch women achieved sixth place.

At the European Championships in 2017 , the Dutch quadruple with Olivia van Rooijen , Inge Janssen , Sophie Souwer and Nicole Beukers won the silver medal behind the German quadruple. With Lisa Scheenard for Janssen, the double scull took second place behind the Polish women at the World Cup finals in Lucerne. Janssen was back on board at the World Championships in Sarasota , with the Dutch four-four winning the title by one second over the Poles. In 2018 Olivia van Rooijen, Karolien Florijn , Sophie Souwer and Nicole Beukers won the bronze medal at both the European and World Championships . The following year Roos de Jong , Inge Janssen, Sophie Souwer and Olivia van Rooijen rowed in the Dutch quad scull. At the 2019 European Championships in Lucerne, the crew won silver behind the German double scull. Three months later, the Dutch women with the cast of van Rooijen, Janssen, Souwer and Nicole Beukers won bronze at the World Championships in Linz behind the Chinese and Polish women.
