Carina Bär (born January 23, 1990 in Heilbronn ) is a former German rower .

Career

Bär started rowing in 2005. At the Junior World Championships 2007 she competed with Julia Lepke in a double scull , but only finished fifth due to cramps in the second half of the course. The following year she won the German Junior Championships in singles and quadruples and was also U23 runner-up in singles. At the Junior World Championships in Ottensheim she won gold in this boat class.

In 2009 Bär won the German U23 championships in the single, at the U23 world championships she reached the A final and won bronze. In autumn she started together with Lepke at the European Championships in Brest , the team finished seventh in a double scull.

In 2010 Bär was German runner-up in the single and was then used for the first time in the Rowing World Cup . In Munich she won the A-final in the double fours together with Britta Oppelt , Tina Manker and Stephanie Schiller . At the final World Cup in Lucerne, she took third place in this boat class with Oppelt, Manker and Julia Richter . With the same team, Bär then became vice European champion in Montemor-o-Velho , and they won bronze at the World Championships in New Zealand . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , she won the silver medal in a double fours with Britta Oppelt, Annekatrin Thiele and Julia Richter. A year later, at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju , they won gold. Thiele and Bär rowed together with Lisa Schmidla and Julia Lier for the gold medal at the 2014 World Championships . In 2015 the German quadruple with Annekatrin Thiele, Carina Bär, Marie-Cathérine Arnold and Lisa Schmidla won the title at the European Championships , at the World Championships they received the silver medal behind the US double quad. At the start of the 2016 Olympic season, Thiele, Bär, Arnold and Schmidla defended the title at the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel . At the Olympic Games Thiele, Bär, Julia Lier and Schmidla rowed in the German quadruple and won the title ahead of the Dutch women. She resigned at the end of the year.

For her sporting successes, Bär was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Gauck on November 1, 2016 .

Bär started for the Heilbronn RG Schwaben .

Carina Bär is a doctor at Heidelberg University Hospital . She is involved as an ambassador for the non-profit association haben.org, which supports projects for children and young people.
