Astrid Hohl
Astrid Hohl , after marriage to Astrid Ayling , (born December 9, 1951 in Aachen ) is a former German rower . Her greatest achievement was the silver medal in the double scull at the 1974 World Championships. After her marriage, she rowed for the United Kingdom and competed twice in the Olympic Games.
Athletic career
Germany
Astrid hollow of the Coblenzer RG 1921 won at the German Championships in One title before 1970 Regine Adam . In 1971 she won again, this time starting for the RC Rhenania Koblenz . At the European Championships in 1971 , Hohl competed with Bärbel Kornhass in a double scull and won the bronze medal behind the boats from the Soviet Union and the GDR. At the European Championships in 1972 Astrid Hohl took fourth place together with Edith Baumann . 1973 Astrid Hohl won the German championships in double sculls together with Renate Lantin . At the European Championships in Moscow , Astrid Hohl competed with Regine Adam, the two won bronze behind the boats from the Soviet Union and the Netherlands. In 1974 and 1975, Hohl and Adam won the German championships. At the 1974 World Championships in Lucerne , competitions in women's rowing were on the program for the first time. In the double sculls won Jelena Antonova and Galina Jermolajewa from the Soviet Union with over two seconds ahead of hollow and Adam, a further two seconds behind the double sculls from East Germany won the bronze medal. In 1975 Antonova and Jermolajewa also won the World Championships in Nottingham , behind them the double scull from the GDR won silver in front of the Bulgarians. Adam and Hohl finished fourth, 0.8 seconds behind the Bulgarians.
United Kingdom
After her marriage to the British rower and boat builder Richard Ayling in 1976, Astrid Ayling rowed for the Kingston Rowing Club in Kingston upon Thames. At the 1977 World Championships , she and Pauline Hart finished fifth in the double scull. In 1978 and 1979 , Ayling and Hart took seventh place each. At the 1980 Olympic Games , Astrid Ayling rowed with Susan Handscombe , the two finished in seventh and last place. In 1981 the two reached the final at the World Championships in Munich and finished sixth. In 1982 Ayling won the double scull competition in the Henley Royal Regatta together with Rosie Mayglothling . After a break, Astrid Ayling returned in 1984 and took part in the 1984 Olympic Games with the British eighth . The British took fifth place.
