Karola Brandt

Karola Brandt , also Karola Kleinschmidt , (born November 25, 1950 in Berlin ) is a former German rower . Her greatest sporting success is the bronze medal in the double quad at the European Championships in 1972.

International career

The 1.80 m tall Karola Brandt from the Wannsee women's rowing club , together with Marlies Schätze , Ute Meyer , Marlies Meyer and helmsman Renate Gruenke, took fourth place in the four-four at the European Championships in Copenhagen behind the boats from Romania, the Soviet Union and from France. The following year, the West Germans won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Brandenburg in the same line-up behind Romania and the Soviet Union, but ahead of the boat from the GDR. In 1973 at the European Championships in Moscow , the double foursome from the GDR won ahead of the Romanians and the boat from the Soviet Union. Three and a half seconds behind the third placed Marlies Meyer, Marlies Schätze , Bärbel Grabowski , Karola Brandt and taxwoman Patricia Lohrbeer took fourth place. In 1975 Karola Brandt belonged to the German eighth place , who reached sixth place at the World Championships in Nottingham . In 1976 Karola Brandt was in the squad for the Olympic Games in Montreal , but was not used.

In 1977 Karola Brandt and Marga Trapp competed in a pair without a helmsman , the two took eleventh place at the World Championships in Amsterdam . The following year, she finished eighth at the 1978 World Championships . In 1981 the four-man with helmsman with Karola Brandt, Christel Lutter , Ellen Becker , Iris Völkner and Kathrien Plückhahn took fifth place at the 1981 World Championships after the Bulgarians had been disqualified.

German championships

Karola Brandt was German single champion in 1972 and 1978 after finishing second behind Astrid Hohl in 1971 . In 1977 she won the double scull with Marga Trapp . In 1977 she won a German championship title in four-four with helmswoman in the line-up of Karola Brandt, Gabriela Toader , Brigitte Bandura , Marga Trapp and Kathrien Plückhahn .

There were also three championship titles in a four-man with a helmsman.
