Jana Mychailiwna Dementieva ( Ukrainian Яна Михайлівна Дементьєва * 23. October 1978 in Kharkiv ) is a former Ukrainian rower , which together with Kateryna Tarasenko , Natalija Dowhodko and Anastasia Koschenkowa 2012 the gold medal in quadruple sculls won and the first rowing Olympic gold medal for Ukraine realized after the collapse of the Soviet Union .

Athletic career

Jana Dementjewa won her first World Cup regatta with the double scull in Milan in 2003 . At the world championships in the same year, the Ukrainian quadruple finished fifth. At the 2004 Olympic Games , Olena Morosowa , Tetjana Kolesnikowa , Olena Olefirenko and Jana Dementjewa took third place behind the German boat and the British women. The bronze medal was withdrawn from the Ukrainians after Olena Olefirenko tested positive in the doping control, the Australians subsequently moved up to third place.

In the 2005 World Cup, the Ukrainians took medals in all three regattas, and at the World Championships they finished fourth behind the British, Germans and Russians. 2006 Dementjewa entered with Natalya Ryschkowa in double sculls and took fifth place at the world championships . In 2007 Dementjewa was again at the start with the double scull and finished fourth at the World Championships in Munich . At the European Championships in 2007 Dementjewa competed with Kateryna Tarassenko and once again just missed a medal place in fourth. At the Olympic Games 2008 Tarassenko and Dementjewa reached seventh place, five weeks later at the European Championships in 2008 the two then won their first international title.

At the end of August 2009, the Ukrainian double four won with Switlana Spirjuchowa , Tetjana Kolesnikowa, Anastassija Koschenkowa and Jana Dementjewa at the World Championships in Poznan . In September 2010, Kateryna Tarassenko, Olena Burjak , Anastassija Koschenkowa and Jana Dementjewa won the European Championships in Montemor, Portugal.
