Maren Derlien

Maren Derlien (born December 17, 1975 in Hamburg ) is a former German oar oarswoman who used to be active in sculling .

Life

Maren Derlien attended the Hummelsbüttel high school in the Hamburg district of the same name .

Derlien starts for RG Hansa Hamburg . In the junior age and in the age group of the under 23-year-olds she was one of the best rowers. At the 1999 World Rowing Championships in St. Catharines , she started for the first time in the adult class at world championships and immediately became world champion in quadruples together with Meike Evers , Manuela Lutze and Kerstin Kowalski . The three other rowers became Olympic champions in 2000 together with Manja Kowalski . Derlien ended her career after not being nominated.

After a few years Derlien returned as a oar oar. At the 2004 Olympic Games , she went to the world class when she and Sandra Goldbach finished fifth in the two-man category without a helmsman . Since 2005 Derlien belongs to the German women's eight . For the 2008 Olympic Games , Maren Derlien and Lenka Wech have been nominated for two. In this boat, Wech and Derlien took fourth place; the two also competed with the eighth, but did not reach the A-final.

Maren Derlien is a qualified sports scientist and works as a freelance journalist.
