Sarah Winckless

Sarah Catherine Winckless (born October 18, 1973 in Reading ) is a former British rower . She won two world titles and an Olympic bronze medal.

Career

The 1.90 m tall Sarah Winckless first took part in the rowing world championships at the age of 24, when she finished eighth in Cologne in 1998 with the British eighth . In 1999 she switched to the double scull , with which she reached seventh place at the World Championships . In 2000 she won a regatta in the Rowing World Cup for the first time in Vienna with the British double scull with Guinn Batten , Sarah Winckless, Katherine Grainger and Miriam Batten . At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 she started with Frances Houghton in double sculls , the British finished ninth.

In 2002 she returned to the double scull and reached fifth place at the World Championships , in 2003 the British double scull improved to fourth place at the World Championships in Milan . In 2004 Elise Laverick and Sarah Winckless switched from the double scull to the double scull. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the two won the bronze medal behind the boats from New Zealand and Germany.

In 2005 Winckless switched back to the double fours. Together with Rebecca Romero , Frances Houghton and Katherine Grainger, she won the title at the World Championships in Gifu . A year later with Debbie Flood for Romero, the British defended their title at the World Championships in front of a home crowd in Eton. After a year break, Sarah Winckless returned to the international regatta courses. In the World Cup she competed in double sculls, single and eighth. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, she finished fifth in eighth place.
