Miriam Batten

Miriam Batten (born November 4, 1964 in Dartford ) is a former British rower . She won an Olympic silver medal in 2000.

Miriam Batten took ninth place in the foursome without a helmsman at the 1990 World Championships . A year later she started in two boat classes at the 1991 World Championships . Together with Fiona Freckleton , she won the bronze medal in two without a helmsman , with the British eighth she finished ninth. At the 1992 Olympic Games , she rowed with Joanne Turvey in two without a helmsman and came in fifth. Also at the World Championships in 1993 with a fourth place and at the World Championships in 1994 with a fifth place, she reached the A-final in two without a helmsman. At the 1995 World Championships and the 1996 Olympic Games , she won the B-final with the British eighth and finished in seventh place.

In 1997 she started in the Rowing World Cup in double sculls and double sculls , at the 1997 World Championships she and Gillian Lindsay won the silver medal behind the German double sculls with Kathrin Boron and Meike Evers . The following year, Batten and Lindsay won the World Championships in Cologne . In 1999 the British double scull only reached seventh place at the World Championships . In 2000, Miriam Batten and Gillian Lindsay competed in double fours with Miriam's sister Guin Batten and Katherine Grainger . At the Olympic Games in Sydney , the British won the silver medal behind the German quadruple.
