Stefka Madina

Stefka Madina ( Bulgarian Стефка Мадина ; born January 23, 1963 in Plovdiv ) is a former Bulgarian rower .

The 1.75 m tall Stefka Madina rowed for Trakia Plovdiv . At the world championships in 1983 she won the bronze medal with the Bulgarian double scull. In 1985 , the Bulgarian four-four came fifth and in 1986 fourth. In 1987 Madina formed a double scull with Violeta Ninowa . At the 1987 World Championships in Copenhagen , the two Bulgarians won the gold medal by a tenth of a second ahead of the two Romanians Elisabeta Lipă and Liliana Genes . In the following year, the two GDR rowers Birgit Peter and Martina Schröter won the Olympic Games in Seoul ahead of Elisabeta Lipă and Veronica Cogeanu ; Madina and Ninowa received the bronze medal, almost two seconds behind the Romanians, but more than six seconds ahead of the fourth-placed rowers from the Soviet Union.
