Philippa Baker

Philippa June Baker , after marriage to Hogan , (born June 12, 1963 in Kaiapoi ) is a former New Zealand rower .

Career

Philippa Baker started out as a lightweight rower. In the lightweight one , she finished fourth at the 1986 World Championships , followed by fifth in 1987 and fourth in 1988 . At the 1989 World Championships she competed with Linda de Jong in the lightweight double sculls and won the silver medal behind the boat from the United States. In 1991 Philippa Baker won the lightweight single.

In 1992 Brenda Lawson and Philippa Baker formed a double scull with no weight restriction. The two New Zealanders finished fourth at the Olympic Games in Barcelona, about one and a half seconds behind the third-placed Chinese. At the 1993 World Championships , Lawson and Baker won the title ahead of the Germans and Bulgarians. In 1994 the two defended their title against the Canadians and the Germans. In 1995 the Canadians won ahead of the Dutch women, Lawson and Baker won the bronze medal. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , the two New Zealanders reached the final again, but only came in sixth there.

Philippa's older sister Erin Baker (* 1961) was a triathlete and won the Ironman Hawaii in 1987 and 1990 .
