Sinéad Lynch

Sinéad Lynch , born Sinéad Jennings (* 30th September 1976 in Letterkenny , County Donegal ) is a former Irish Lightweight - rower and track cyclist , as today triathlete is active.

Career

rowing

The 1.72 m tall sportswoman began rowing in 1998. In the 2000 World Cup in Munich she finished second in the lightweight one behind the Finn Laila Finska , in Vienna she was second behind Fenella Ng from Hong Kong. In the third regatta in Lucerne, Laila Finska won ahead of the German Angelika Brand , Sinéad Jennings took third place. This finish was repeated in the A-final of the World Championships in Zagreb . Jennings also rowed into the medal ranks several times in her second World Cup season: In Seville, the Swiss Pia Vogel won ahead of Mirjam ter Beek from the Netherlands and Jennings, in Vienna Jennings won her first World Cup regatta and in Munich only Laila Finska was ahead of Jennings. Sinéad Jennings won the world championships ahead of Mirjam ter Beek and Pia Vogel.

In 2002 and 2003 Sinéad Jennings rowed in the lightweight double scull and tried to qualify in this only Olympic boat class for lightweight rowers for the 2004 Olympic Games, but the Irish double scull only reached the C-final at the World Championships and missed the qualification. At the 2004 World Championships , Sinéad Jennings returned to the single and finished fourth. The following year she reached the A-final at the 2005 World Championships together with Heather Boyle and finished fifth in the lightweight double scull. In 2006 Sinéad Jennings and Niamh Ni Cheilleacher reached seventh place. In 2007 the two Irish women missed the Olympic qualification for 2008. At what was initially her last major international regatta at the 2008 World Championships , Sinéad Jennings won the silver medal behind Swiss Pamela Weisshaupt .

In 2015 she returned to the regatta under her married name Sinéad Lynch. At the European Championships in 2015 , she finished eighth in the single. Together with Claire Lambe , she finished ninth in the lightweight double scull at the 2015 World Championships . After a ninth place at the 2016 European Championships , the Irish reached sixth place at the 2016 Olympic Games .

Cycling

Jennings started in the individual time trial of the road cycling world championships in 2003 and finished 35th.

After missing the 2008 Olympic rowing qualification for a second time, Jennings was recruited by the Irish Cycling Federation for a team pursuit team . With this she finished seventh at the UEC European Rail Championships in 2011 together with Ciara Horne and Caroline Ryan and also missed again and unhappily the participation in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Triathlon

In August 2017 she was third in the Ironman 70.3 Dublin triathlon over the middle distance (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running).

Private

Jennings married two-time Ireland Olympian and former rower Sam Lynch and took his name on. She has three daughters with him and, like her husband, works as a doctor. Her sister Caitriona Jennings took part in the 2012 Olympic Games marathon.
