Alrun Urbach

Alrun Urbach (* 15. September 1958 ) is a former German lightweight - rower .

Athletic career

The 1.60 m tall Alrun Urbach from the Hamburg rowing club on the Teichwiesen was a pioneer of lightweight rowing in Germany. In 1984 German championships in the lightweight single were held for the first time, but Alrun Urbach did not take part in this competition, but became runner-up in the open class. Urbach qualified for participation in the world championships in the non-Olympic boat classes in Montreal. There, the women's lightweight rowing competition was held as a demonstration competition and Alrun Urbach won this demonstration competition in the lightweight single.

At the official premiere in lightweight rowing for women at the 1985 World Championships in Hazewinkel , Alrun Urbach and Brigitte Helmers from Hanover took part in the lightweight double sculls, the two of whom received the silver medal behind the Britons Linda Clark and Beryl Crockford . After two years without participating in the World Championship, Alrun Urbach was in Milan in 1988 together with Christiane Weber in the lightweight double scull and finished in fifth place. At the 1989 World Championships in Bled , Urbach and Weber won the bronze medal. Alrun Urbach made her last start in the World Championship in 1991 in Vienna , where she finished fourth with the lightweight four without a helmsman.
