Sylvia Schwabe

Sylvia Schwabe , from 1988 Sylvia Lahl , (* December 20, 1962 ) is a former rower who was twice world champion and once world championship runner- up for the GDR.

Athletic career

1979 won Sylvia Schwabe in the quadruple sculls at the Junior World Championships , in 1980 she won the One . In 1981 she started at the World Championships in the adult class and took fourth place in the single with almost two seconds behind third-placed Irina Fetissova from the USSR.

At the world championships in 1983 in Duisburg, the double scull from the GDR took second place behind the boat from the USSR. The double foursome from the GDR rowed with Kerstin Kirst , Kerstin Pieloth , Cornelia Linse , Sylvia Schwabe and helmsman Andrea Rost . After the rowers from the GDR were not present at the 1984 Olympic Games because of the Olympic boycott , they won four of six competitions in the Olympic boat classes at the 1985 World Championships in Hazewinkel. In the double scull, Sylvia Schwabe and Martina Schröter won with almost seven seconds ahead of the Romanians. The following year Sylvia Schwabe and Beate Schramm had three seconds ahead of the Romanians at the 1986 World Championships in Nottingham. At the World Championships in 1987 Schwabe and Schramm took fifth place.

The 1.80 m tall Sylvia Schwabe rowed for the SC DHfK Leipzig . In the GDR championships in 1981, 1982 and 1986 she won the single title, in 1980 she was second behind Jutta Hampe . In 1984 she won the double scull with Cornelia Linse, 1985 with Martina Schröter and 1986 with Beate Schramm. She won in the double fours in 1980 and 1984; In 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986 and 1988 she was second in the quadruple scull, where she started as Sylvia Lahl in 1988.
