Guin Batten

Guinevere "Guin" Batten (born September 27, 1967 in Cuckfield , Mid Sussex ) is a former British rower . She won an Olympic silver medal in 2000.

Like her sister Miriam Batten , Guin Batten started rowing at competitive level relatively late. Guin Batten took part in the 1994 World Championships in Indianapolis , where she finished ninth in the single , at the 1995 World Championships she reached eighth place. She reached her first international A-final at the 1996 Olympic Games when she finished fifth in the single. At the World Championships in 1997 and 1998 , she finished sixth.

1999 Guin Batten joined the quadruple sculls , finishing in this boat class in seventh place at the World Championships . In 2000, the double scull appeared in a new line-up, alongside Katherine Grainger and Guin Batten, Gillian Lindsay and Guin's sister Miriam moved from the British double scull to the double scull. At the Olympic Games in Sydney , the British won the silver medal behind the German quadruple.

At the 2001 World Championships , Guin Batten reached a grand final with the British eighth and finished in sixth place. In the rowing world cup she competed again in 2002, after which she ended her competitive sports career. The graduate of the University of Southampton started first for the boat club of her college, later for the Thames Rowing Club .
