Mid Sussex is a district in the county of West Sussex in England . The administrative seat is Haywards Heath ; other significant places are Ardingly , Ashurst Wood , Balcombe , Bolney , Burgess Hill , Cuckfield , East Grinstead , Horsted Keynes , Lindfield and Turners Hill .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of the urban districts of Cuckfield, Burgess Hill and East Grinstead and a large part of the rural district of Cuckfield. These areas were previously part of East Sussex .
