Hans-Heinz Bollmann

Hans-Heinz Bollmann (born December 1, 1889 in Hamburg ; † July 9, 1974 there ) was a German opera and operetta singer ( tenor ).

Life

Bollmann came from a long-established Hamburg merchant family. He actually wanted to become a dentist, but then studied singing in Hamburg and with Enrico Rosario in Milan. His artistic career began in 1912 at the Bochum City Theater. From 1913 to 1915 Bollmann was engaged at the Wilhelmshaven City Theater. He was then called up for military service. After the end of the war he went to the Nuremberg City Theater. From 1921 to 1925 he was a member of the Hamburg Opera House ensemble. In the 1925–1926 season he made guest appearances at the State Opera in Berlin . There he sang among others José in Carmen , Max im Freischütz , Rodolfo in La Bohème , Baron Lummer in the Intermezzo of Richard Strauss, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly , Hans in Smetana's Sold Bride and Count Almaviva in the Barber of Seville .

At the end of the 1920s, Bollmann turned increasingly to the operetta and sang at all major German-language operetta stages, including from 1927 to 1928 at the Theater des Westens , 1930 to 1931 at the theater in the Admiralspalast , 1935 to 1936 at the Berlin Metropoltheater (here in 1935 in the world premiere of Ball of Nations by Fred Raymond ) and from 1937 to 1938 at the Theater des People . From 1928 to 1932 he was at the Theater an der Wien , where he took part in the world premiere of Franz Lehár's opera Schön ist die Welt in 1931 , as well as at the Johann Strauss Theater in the latter city. He also made a guest appearance at the Raimund Theater in Vienna in 1938 . The artist was a favorite singer of Franz Lehár. He sang Danilo in Merry Widow , the titular hero in Paganini , Goethe in Friederike and Armand in the Count of Luxemburg with great success . In 1928 he sang in Berlin with Vera Schwarz as a partner in La Barberina von Ascher. He also made several guest appearances at the Munich Gärtnerplatztheater .

Bollmann has also performed in Paris, London and the USA. In the 1930s he was also an extremely successful film actor and singer ( Die Lindenwirtin , with Käthe Dorsch , Der Bettelstudent , with Jarmila Novotná , Frasquita , with Heinz Rühmann or Der Postillon von Lonjumeau , with Leo Slezak ). In 1951 he starred in the film Die Dubarry , with Sári Barabás , and two years later he was on stage for the last time in the opening performance of the new Hamburg operetta house in Lehár's Merry Widow .

Bollmann sang gramophone records for Electrola / HMV, Homocord and the Lindström brands Gloria, Odeon and Parlophon .

He sang, in a duet with the baritone Manfred Lewandowski , 1923–1928 cantor at the Peace Temple in Berlin-Halensee and 1928–1938 senior cantor at the Lindenstrasse synagogue in Berlin-Kreuzberg, the duet "Brahmas's Temple radiates" from Bizet's opera Die Perlenfischer , but also, accompanied by the Nazi Reich orchestra and choir, the patriotic song Mein Deutschland, you should live, you mustn't go under .

The artist's first marriage was to the operetta singer Friedel Bollmann, who died in 1936. In 1938 he married Elisabeth Biebl . His daughter from his first marriage, Hannelore Bollmann , was a well-known film actress.
