Mario-Elio Gyr (born May 2, 1985 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss rower .

Mario Gyr, rowing for the See-Club Luzern , finished sixth in the lightweight four-man team at the U23 World Championships in 2005 . The following year he reached seventh place in the one . Gyr also took seventh place at the 2008 World Championships in the lightweight two-man without a helmsman. In 2010, the Swiss lightweight four without a helmsman with Simon Schürch , Lucas Tramèr , Simon Niepmann and Mario Gyr won the bronze medal at the European Championships . At the 2011 World Championships , the Swiss four-man finished sixth and qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games . At the Olympiaregatta in Eton, the Swiss four reached the fifth place.

In 2013, Gyr and Schürch competed in the lightweight double scull and won the bronze medal at the European Championships and the silver medal at the World Championships . In 2014 came fifth place at the European championships and ninth place at the world championships . In 2015, Gyr and Schürch returned to the lightweight four without a helmsman and together with Niepmann and Tramèr they won the titles at the European Championships in Poznan and at the World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette . At the European Championships in 2016 , the Swiss foursome was able to defend its title from the previous year. Four years after finishing fifth in London, the four Swiss also won the 2016 Olympic Regatta , at the finish they were almost one and a half seconds ahead of the Danes.

After the Olympic victory, Gyr tried a comeback in the open weight class in 2018. He started in two-without at 2 World Cup regattas and at the World Championships in Plovdiv , where he reached the D-final. After the 2018 World Cup, he announced his retirement.
