Leonardo Pettinari (* 19th April 1973 in Pontedera ) is a former Italian lightweight - rowers , who from 1993 to 2007. an Olympic silver medal and ten World Championship medals, including seven gold medals won.

Career

Pettinari started rowing in 1985. At the 1993 World Rowing Championships , Pettinari won his first international medal when he finished third behind the boats from Canada and Denmark with the Italian lightweight eighth. Together with Carlo Gaddi , Pettinari switched from eighth to two without a helmsman in 1994 , and at the 1994 World Rowing Championships Pettinari won his first world championship. A year later, Gaddi and Pettinari sat together with Andrea Re and Ivano Zasio in a four without a helmsman and won the title at the 1995 World Rowing Championships in this boat class . In the same line-up, the Italian four-man competed in the 1996 Olympic Games , but missed the A-final and finished eighth overall.

In 1997 Pettinari switched from oar rowing to scull rowing . Together with Michelangelo Crispi , he won silver in the lightweight double scull at the World Rowing Championships in 1997 and 1998 behind the Poles Tomasz Kucharski and Robert Sycz . In 1999 in Canada, Crispi and Pettinari won the title, while the Poles only finished fourth.

In 2000 Elia Luini came to Pettinari in the lightweight double scull, together the two won the Olympic silver medal at the Olympic regatta 2000 in Sydney behind the Polish boat. In 2001 Luini and Pettinari lost to the German two at the World Cup in Seville, after which Luini and Pettinari began a winning streak with three world championship titles and six World Cup victories up to the 2004 Olympic Games. In the 2004 Olympic regatta, the two were defeated in the preliminary run and were only able to win through the reunion and semi-finals qualify for the B-final, there Pettinari no longer competed, Luini together with Nicola Moriconi took the last place in the B-final.
