Are Weier Holt Strandli (* 18th August 1988 in Stavanger ) is a Norwegian lightweight - rowers . In 2013 he was world champion in the lightweight double scull .

Career

The 1.81 m tall rower from the Stavanger Roklub took part in both the U23 World Championships in 2007 , where he reached the B final in the lightweight double scull with Svein Urban Ringstad, as well as the European Championships , where he won the B with Kristoffer Brun -Final rowed. In 2008, Brun and Strandli took seventh place at the U23 World Championships as winners of the B final, and in the following year they achieved eighth place. At the European Championships in 2010 , Brun and Strandli took ninth place, at the World Championships they came in tenth place. At the 2011 World Championships , Strandli started with Ringstad, with ninth place they also qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games.

At the 2012 Olympic Games , however, Strandli started again together with Kristoffer Brun, the two of them reached the B-final and finished ninth overall. At the 2014 World Championships, South Africans James Thompson and John Smith won ahead of Delayre / Azou and Brun / Strandli. In 2015, Delayre and Azou won the title at both the European and World Championships, ahead of the British Richard Chambers and William Fletcher , Kristoffer Brun and Are Strandli each received the bronze medal. At the European Championships in 2016 , the Irish double scull won ahead of the German boat, Brun and Strandli took third place as in the previous year. Brun and Strandli also won the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games , while the French were Olympic champions ahead of the Irish.

After Strandli took a break in 2017, Brun and Strandli started together again in 2018 and won the title at the European Championships .
