Stany Delayre (* 26. October 1987 in Bergerac , France ) is a French lightweight - rowers .

Career

Delayre began rowing in 2002. Participation in the Junior World Championships was denied him as a lightweight, since competitions in this weight class are not held there. In the U23 area, however, Delayre took part three times in the lightweight quadruple sculls in the years 2006 to 2008 in the world championships, where he was able to win a silver medal in Glasgow in 2007.

With his first participation in the Rowing World Cup , Delayre rose to the open age group in the 2009 season. In the same year he also took part in the World Championships for the first time and finished fourth in the easy double quad. He collected his first international medals the following year, when he won bronze at the European Championships in Portugal and silver at the World Championships in New Zealand with the French team. At the 2011 World Championships in the pre-Olympic year, he moved up to the easy single and was able to take fifth place.

At the regattas of the Rowing World Cup in 2012, Delayre managed to jump to Jérémie Azou in the Olympic lightweight double scull . After success in the World Cup regattas, the duo was nominated for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where they finished fourth, almost two seconds behind the bronze medal .

With his new partner Azou, Delayre also competed at the 2013 European Championships in Seville, where he won his first international title in the open age group with the gold medal. The World Cup of that year missed Delayre due to a back injury. At the European Championships in 2014 , Delayre and Azou were able to start again in an easy double scull and defend their title from the previous year. They finished the World Championships in Amsterdam on silver with a gap of 0.11 s behind the victorious boat from South Africa.

Delayre and Azou began the pre-Olympic season with their third consecutive European title at the European Championships in Poznan . At the world championships , which were held on Lac d'Aiguebelette in their home country Delayres, the French duo won the world title in the lightweight double scull for the first time. Delayre then lost his place in the Olympic double sculls to Pierre Houin , who became Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro with Azou. In the 2017 season, Delayre returned and after a less than successful participation in the European Championships in the easy singles, later won the gold medal in the lightweight quadruple sculls at the World Championships in Florida.

Delayre starts for the Sport Nautique de Bergerac club in his hometown. At a height of 1.83 m, his competition weight is around 70 kg.
