reception

Apart from having the same name, there is no connection with the well-known Cyrano de Bergerac , who described a journey to the moon and sun under the title “The Other World” ( French: L'Autre Monde ). This inspired the famous play by Edmond Rostand , which bears his name, whose protagonist, the noble poet Cyrano de Bergerac with the big nose and a keen nose for poetic declarations of love, has little to do with the real Hector Savinien de Cyrano .

Although the name of Cyrano is not derived from the city of Bergerac, statues adorn different parts of the city, always depicting him in the same posture: the dreamy expression, the nose proudly turned towards the Other World. Hector Savinien was not of Gascogn descent, did not speak the accent of the area, and there was nothing to indicate that he was ever in Bergerac. He added this addition to his real name because of one of his properties called Bergerac not far from Paris . He used the name also to its membership in the company of cadets of Gascony to stress.
