Villefranche-de-Lonchat is a French municipality with 973 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it belongs to the Arrondissement Bergerac and the canton of Pays de Montaigne et Gurson . It was founded as a bastide around 1284/87 .

Population development

Villefranche was badly damaged in the Hundred Years War. In 1301 260 "hearths" (households) were taxed, in 1365 it was only about half.
