Attractions
Parish Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption
Consecrated in honor of Mary's Assumption into Heaven , the church was built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style and has been redesigned many times over the centuries. The west facade shows a bell gable , which is interrupted at the top by two wall openings for the bells, a very small one in the middle and finally the entrance portal at the foot . It is arched and decorated with archivolts . The facades of the side aisles with separate entrances are located on both outer sides . These are framed with pilasters that support a cornice .
Lanquais Castle
The castle and the avenue of elm trees that lead to it have been classified as a monument historique since July 8, 1942 . The west wing, the outbuildings, the castle wall, the courtyard and its grounds have also been classified as Monument historique since September 14, 2010 .
There is a barn near the elm avenue that leads to the castle , which dates from the 15th century. It can be visited and has been registered as a Monument historique since June 17, 1942 . Over the centuries, the building alternately served as a hospital, Protestant church, entertainment hall, wine store, cowshed and finally as a sheepfold under the different owners. It was on the verge of demolition when it was bought in 1975 by the Friends of Lanquais Association, which carried out the first renovation.
Laroque Castle
The property was built in the 15th century in the style typical of the Périgord on a rock face above the Couzeau. It has retained its picturesque appearance with its two L-shaped living quarters with a hexagonal tower. On the north facade there are foundations of an earlier development, which like the vaulted cellar probably date from the 13th century. Located in the north of the center of the municipality, the castle once belonged to the fief of the Joas de Laroquede Perponcher family. It then came into the possession of the Lafargue family. A dry moat dug into the rock separates the castle from the rest of the plateau. The castle has been inscribed as a Monument historique since October 12, 1948 . It is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside.
