As a result of the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the mechanization of agriculture , the population fell to the lows in the 1950s to 1990s.

economy

For centuries, the population of the village lived on agriculture, self-sufficient , which also included viticulture and a little cattle breeding. Some of the wine produced was exported in barrels on rafts and / or barges across the Dordogne and the ports on the Gironde to England. Today - in addition to retail and handicrafts - tourism in the form of renting holiday apartments ( gîtes ) plays an important role in the city's economic life.

history

Monks of the monastery of Saint-Cybard in Angoulême founded a settlement in Trémolat as early as the 9th century. From it both the Romanesque abbey church of Saint-Nicolas and - over the centuries - the present-day place developed.
