Thorsten Droste

Thorsten Droste (* 1950 in Hamburg ; † December 27, 2011 in Wetzlar ) was a German art historian , author, photographer and organizer of study trips.

Life

Thorsten Droste first studied painting at the art academies in Hamburg and Munich , then art history, archeology and history and received his doctorate in 1978 on the bronze door of the Augsburg Cathedral . He made his first study trips as a student and since then has published under the motto “Book and travel from a single source” about his travel destinations such as Burgundy , Venice , the Spanish and French Pyrenees, the Périgord and the Camino de Santiago . At times in Salzburg alive, taught Droste as a freelance lecturer from 1970 art history of the Middle Ages at the local university . The art historian lived in southwest France from 1997 to 2009 and finally moved to Hesse . Until his death in 2011 he published more than 30 books mainly on topics of medieval history and art.

Honors

Droste was made an honorary citizen of the city of Sarlat in 1996.

Works

Many of Droste's books have been translated, especially into French . Two of his publications on the Camino de Santiago in Europe were even awarded prizes in France.
