Saint-Marcel-du-Périgord is a French municipality with 147 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Bergerac and the canton of Lalinde .

The name in the Occitan language is Sent Marcèl de Perigòrd and is derived from Saint Marcellus I , Bishop of Rome .

The inhabitants are called Saint-Marcelois and Saint-Marceloises .

Saint-Marcel-du-Périgord is located about 20 km northeast of Bergerac in the Bergeracois area of the historic province of Périgord .

Saint-Marcel-du-Périgord lies in the catchment area of ​​the Dordogne river . The Louyre , a tributary of the Caudeau , crosses the territory of the municipality together with its tributaries, the Ruisseau de Barbeyrol and the Sérouze.

Population development

After records began, the number of inhabitants rose to a high of around 570 in the first half of the 19th century.
