Lalinde ( Occitan : La Linda ) is a French municipality with 2794 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . Lalinde belongs to the Arrondissement of Bergerac and is the main town (chef-lieu) of the canton of Lalinde .
geography
Lalinde is located about 20 kilometers east of Bergerac on the River Dordogne and the parallel former shipping canal Canal de Lalinde . Lalinde is surrounded by the neighboring communities Pressignac-Vicq in the north, Mauzac-et-Grand-Castang in the east, Badefols-sur-Dordogne in the southeast, Pontours in the south, Couze-et-Saint-Front in the southwest and Baneuil in the west.
The former Route nationale 703 runs through the municipality .
history
According to the Peutinger table, the village goes back to the Gallo-Roman settlement of Diolindum. Lalinde was the first English bastide founded in 1267. The place was devastated in the Hundred Years War. In 1794 the towns of Drayaux and Sainte-Colombe were incorporated. On June 21, 1944, the Germans carried out a massacre in revenge against the Resistance.
