In earlier times, the inhabitants of the community lived as a self-sufficient living from agriculture, which also included viticulture and the breeding of sheep and goats. In the area around the village there are still some vineyards, the products of which are traded through the Montravel (AOC) appellation . but tourism in the form of renting holiday apartments ( gîtes ) is now playing a more important role in the municipality's economic life.
history
A church belonging to Baignes Abbey is mentioned as early as the end of the 11th century. This was passed on to the Benedictine abbey of Uzerche in 1122 .
Attractions
- Despite its unadorned and massive Romanesque west tower, the parish church ( Saint-Médard ) is largely a late Gothic building from the 15th and 16th centuries. or a new design from the 19th century. Compared to the Romanesque churches in the area, the apse and nave have comparatively large, unmistakable pointed arch windows and are stabilized against the vaulting by means of buttresses that taper upwards . The late Gothic stonemasons' delight in decor and the craftsmanship of the late Gothic stonemasons are most evident on the portal, which was later added to the ground floor of the tower and has since been destroyed. In the tympanum field there used to be an annunciation group , of which the angel can still be recognized. The church building was recognized as a monument historique in 1974 .
- Near the apse is the late medieval market hall ( hall ) of the town, resting on wooden supports .
- A few meters southwest of the church is a roofed washing area ( lavoir ) from the 19th century.
