Singleyrac is a French municipality with 269 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Bergerac and the canton Sud-Bergeracois (until 2015: canton Eymet ).

The name in the Occitan language is Singlairac and can be traced back to an estate that belonged to a "Singularius" in Gallo-Roman times .

The inhabitants are called Singleyracois and Singleyracoises .

geography

Singleyrac is located about 15 km south of Bergerac in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) in the Bergeracois area of the historic province of Périgord on the southwestern edge of the department.

Singleyrac is located in the catchment areas of the Dordogne and Garonne rivers .

The Gardonnette , a tributary of the Dordogne, crosses the territory of the municipality together with its tributaries, the Grimoudou and the Ruisseau l'Ayguessou, which rises in Singleyrac.

Likewise, the Ruisseau du Réveillou, a tributary of the Dropt , irrigates the municipality together with its tributary, the Ruisseau de Bonnefin.

Population development

With the beginning of the records, the population rose in the first half of the 19th century to an initial high of around 275. In the period that followed, a phase of stagnation set in until the 1970s, when the number of inhabitants increased to 115 with short recovery phases before a period of strong growth began, which peaked at around 315 inhabitants in the 2011 census. Recently, however, a negative trend can be seen again.
