In the 19th century the place had a constant between 500 and 625 inhabitants. As a result of the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the loss of jobs as a result of the mechanization of agriculture , the population fell in the 20th century to the lows in the 1970s and 1980s.
economy
In earlier times, the inhabitants of the community lived as self-sufficient farmers from agriculture, which also included viticulture and a little cattle farming. Since medieval times, some of the wine produced in the area has been shipped to England in barrels and on rafts or barges via the Dordogne and the ports on the Gironde . The soils of the municipality are now part of the Montravel wine-growing region , but the rental of holiday apartments ( gîtes ) also plays an important role in the economic life of the municipality.
Attractions
- The parish church of the village is a rather inconspicuous medieval building with both Romanesque and Gothic elements and a neo-Romanesque west tower added in the 19th century .
- In the immediate vicinity of the church is a rather simple castle ( château ) from the 17th century, which is privately owned.
