Attractions

Parish Church of Saint-Etienne

The Romanesque church was built in the 12th century by monks from Cadouin Abbey. It has a floor plan in the form of a Latin cross , with the transept terminating in a semicircle. The nave has only one nave. The massive bell tower is built over the crossing and has battlements . Few windows and a flat structure underline the character of a fortified church . The side chapel to the north was built by Jean de Saintours in 1759 and improved in 1902 when an entrance was installed in the rear wall of the church. Inside there are frescoes from the 19th century.

Ferrand Castle

It is located in the middle of a park in the east of the municipality on a hill above the Dordogne. The building dates from the Renaissance period . The name is derived from the Latin word ferrum ( German  iron ). Its owners over the centuries were illustrious families from the Périgord. At the beginning, the Saint Ours family settled here, followed by the Abzacs, Seigneurs from La Douze . The castle then passed into the hands of the Laborie de la Batut family, one of whom was mayor of the municipality between 1986 and 1900. During the 19th century the castle was completely restored, but some old architectural elements, such as B. preserve a twin window typical of the Renaissance . The small outbuilding, which has served as a vestibule since 1912, was originally a chapel, built by Jean de Saintours in 1759. Today the castle is privately owned and not open to the public.
