history

The history of the place is closely linked to the abbey mentioned in the 8th century, which was sacked by the Normans in 849 and 860 . According to tradition, another predecessor of today's abbey church was consecrated in 991 by Bishop Frotarius of Périgueux . In 1304, Bertrand de Got, the Archbishop of Bordeaux and later Pope Clement V , paid a visit to the abbey.
