Saint-Séverin-d'Estissac is a French commune of 100 people (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Périgueux and the canton Vallée de l'Isle (until 2015: canton Neuvic ).

The name in the Occitan language is Sent Sieurin d'Estiçac and is derived from Saint Severin, Bishop of Bordeaux in the fifth century. The addition "Estissac" probably comes from an estate that belonged to an "Asticius" in Gallo-Roman times .

The inhabitants are called Saint-Séverinois and Saint-Séverinoises .

Population development

After records began, the number of inhabitants rose several times in the first half of the 19th century to highs of around 175. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell to around 50 inhabitants with short recovery phases up to the 1970s. A growth trend followed, which has also shown significant growth since the turn of the millennium.
