Bassillac - Église Saint-Étienne

Bassillac et Auberoche is a French commune with 4,498 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) of the center department Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It was created as Commune nouvelle with effect from January 1, 2017 from the amalgamation of six former municipalities, all of which have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality .

Location and climate

The community is about 10 to 20 km (driving distance) east of Périgueux at heights of about 100 to 250  m ; in the north of the municipality, the Auvézère river flows into the Isle .

The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 900 mm / year) falls over the year.

Population development

The continuous decline in population in the 20th century is mainly due to the mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms. The renewed increase towards the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century is due to the proximity to the city of Périgueux .

The (total) population of the municipality of Saint-Antoine-d'Auberoche was determined by adding up the municipalities that were independent until the end of 2016.

economy

The community is still largely characterized by agriculture, with viticulture , which was important in earlier times, only playing a minor role. On the other hand, some fish farms have emerged. Small traders, craftsmen and service providers have settled in the village.
