history
During the Second World War , the municipality of Rouffignac was almost completely destroyed by members of the Brehmer division . The act of revenge was preceded by the kidnapping of two officers of the division by the Resistance in the vicinity of the village. Both escaped unscathed. On March 31, 1944, the residents were driven from the village, the place was then looted and the buildings set on fire. Only the church in the village center and a few neighboring buildings were spared. There were no civilian deaths, twelve people were deported. The village was rebuilt according to old plans and honored by General Charles de Gaulle with the Croix de guerre . Since 1947 the village has had the status of a "Village Martyr". A memorial plaque is in the open market hall by the village square.
In 1973 the municipalities of Saint-Cernin-de-Reillac and Rouffignac were merged.
