The continuous population decline in the first half of the 20th century is mainly due to the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the increasing mechanization of agriculture as well as the associated loss of jobs.

economy

For centuries, the residents of the community lived on the produce of their fields and gardens, self-sufficient ; In addition, cattle breeding, a little viticulture and the planting of chestnuts and nut trees were carried out. Craftsmen, small traders and service providers also settled in the village. Since the 1960s, some of the vacant houses, but also new buildings, have been used as holiday apartments ( gîtes ) .

history

Small stone age finds were made at the Camp de César , which belongs to the municipality .

The old place name Salis is first mentioned in a document from the year 1053. Assaults during the Hundred Years War (1337–1453) and the Huguenot Wars (1562–1598) are likely, but not proven.

Attractions

The single-nave Romanesque parish church was originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary , but was renamed Saint-Sacerdos after the parish was taken over by the cathedral chapter of Sarlat . The exterior and interior of the rather unadorned church building, whose already slightly raised apse was supplemented by an almost windowless shelter, is crowned by a three-part bell gable. The current windows were added in the 18th or 19th century.
