history
Finds on the Le Treil parcel indicate the prehistoric human presence.
The Roman road from Périgueux ( Vesunna ) to Cahors ( Divona Cadurcorum ) led through the area of today's municipality; On the parcel of La Simonie there was a fortification ( castrum ) and aerial photographs revealed a Roman estate ( villa rustica ).
The first written mention ( Jornhac ) comes from the 13th century.
The originally Romanesque parish church indicates a medieval settlement; in the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) it was fortified.

In the 19th century the population of the community was mostly over 900. The phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the loss of jobs due to the mechanization of agriculture have led to a continuous decline in population that only came to a standstill in the 1970s.
economy
Up to the present day agriculture plays the biggest role in the economic life of the community: The viticulture that was formerly also practiced here was, however, completely abandoned after the phylloxera crisis; Tobacco and corn are also on the decline - instead, forests, fields and pastures, but also walnut , chestnut and fruit trees dominate the region. Also, foie gras and truffles are among the best regional cuisine. Some vacant houses are rented out as holiday apartments ( gîtes ).
Attractions
- The parish church of Saint-Saturnin was originally a single-nave Romanesque building, of which only the flat-closing apse has been preserved. The defensive-looking basement of the tower was added in the 15th century. In the 17th or 18th century, the church received two side aisles, a new portal zone with a fan rosette as the upper end and a bell storey on the tower.
- The old and the new town hall ( mairie ) are connected by a truss bridge and form a pretty ensemble.
- There is a roofed wash house ( lavoir ) on the outskirts .
