Saint-André-d'Allas is a French commune with 833 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017); it is hidden in the Périgord noir forest a few kilometers from Sarlat-la-Canéda in the Dordogne department . The commune includes the hamlets of Saint-André and Allas-l'Évêque .
history
As in many other places in the region, there are traces of early settlement near the hamlet of Allas . Several prehistoric graves were discovered in the area in 1911 . Several small rock caves in the Petite Beune valley were not only used in prehistoric times, but also later served to protect the population during the many armed conflicts in the region.
In 1825 the two hamlets of Saint-André and Allas were united into one municipality by royal decree.

Attractions
The hamlet of Saint-André consists of several old houses that are grouped around a Romanesque church with a bell gable . The church, which dates from the 14th century and was partially renovated in the 15th century, was once the important seat of a dean . It was classified as a Monument historique in 1926 , as was the church building and by Allas , Saint-Barthélemy from the 13th century.
Other sights in the municipality are the Cabanes du Breuil , a settlement made up of a dozen stone huts ( bories ) made of dry stone masonry . This, too, is a monumet historique.
