Le Bugue is a commune with 2,587 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in France in the Dordogne department , in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region .
geography
The city is located in the Périgord countryside on the north side of the Vézère , very close to its confluence with the Dordogne . The distance to Périgueux ( prefecture ) is about 40 kilometers.

partnership
In 1988, Le Bugue entered into a partnership with the Alsatian town of Marckolsheim , in memory of the evacuation of part of the local population to the Périgord at the beginning of the Second World War .
Personalities
- Jean Rey (1583–1645), doctor and physicist, was born in Le Bugue, where he also worked and died.
 
Others
British author Martin Walker owns a house in Le Bugue. His detective novel Bruno - Chef de police and all subsequent volumes are set here; in the novel the place is referred to as Saint-Denis . The main hero Bruno was modeled after the real gendarme Pierrot Simmonet from Le Bugue.
