Doissat ( Occitan Doissac ) is a place and several hamlets (hamlets) existing and farmsteads community with 105 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) to the east of the southern French departments of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

Doissat is a good 31 km (driving distance) southwest of the city of Sarlat-la-Canéda or a good 70 km southeast of Périgueux at an altitude of approx. 240 m above sea level. d. M. The climate is temperate and is influenced equally by the Atlantic and the mountains of the Massif Central ; Rain falls throughout the year.

The continuous population decline in the first half of the 20th century is mainly due to the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the increasing mechanization of agriculture as well as the associated loss of jobs.
economy
For centuries, the residents of the community lived on the produce of their fields and gardens, self-sufficient ; In addition, cattle breeding, a little viticulture and the planting of chestnuts and nut trees were carried out. Craftsmen, small traders and service providers also settled in the village. Since the 1960s, some of the vacant houses have been used as holiday apartments ( gîtes ) .
history
Finds from Gallo-Roman times were unearthed in the municipality .
Destruction during the Hundred Years War (1337–1453) is likely, but not proven. During the Huguenot Wars (1562–1598), the castle, which belonged to the Huguenot leader Geoffroy de Vivans , was partially destroyed. Afterwards rebuilt, it suffered the same fate again during the French Revolution .
Attractions
- The parish church of Saint-Hilaire , consecrated in 1869, is dedicated to St. Dedicated to Hilary of Poitiers . It houses a painting copy from the 19th century after Raphael ( The Archangel Michael throws down the dragon ).
- Only small remains of the former castle or the rebuilt castle (château) have survived.
