In the 19th century the population of the community was always between 350 and 450 people. The phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the loss of jobs due to the mechanization of agriculture led to a continuous population decline, the low point of which may have been reached in the 1970s to 1990s.
economy
Up to the present day agriculture plays the biggest role in the economic life of the municipality. However, the viticulture practiced here was completely given up after the phylloxera crisis . Tobacco and corn are also on the decline - instead, forests, fields and pastures, but also walnut , chestnut and fruit trees dominate the region. Also, foie gras and truffles are among the best regional cuisine. Some vacant houses are rented out as holiday apartments ( gîtes ).
history
The place name Mont Plaisan first appears in a 10th century document; in 1156 it was written to Munplacens . In 1305 the church and place belonged to the Benedictine abbey Fongauffier in Sagelat , which was dissolved and destroyed during the French Revolution .
Attractions
- The single-nave parish church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste with its unadorned facade and its two-part bell gable dates from the 12th century.
- Immediately adjacent is the former rectory ( presbytère ) from the 16th century, which exceeds the dimensions of the church. The semicircular gable fronts of the two dormer windows with their fan rosettes are pretty .
