history
Plazac was founded in the Middle Ages as a market square, built around a castle and a Romanesque church from the 12th century. Pope Urban III. took this church under his protection in 1187 by giving the area to the Bishop of Périgueux . It was the bishops of Périgueux who built the castle to protect the church and the population. Hélie Servient, the Bishop of Périgueux, died on March 12, 1387.
Hundred Years War
During the Hundred Years War in November 1397 under the reign of Charles VI. The Count of Périgord, who was cooperating with the English troops and the owner of the Montignac castle, besieged Pierre de Durfort, the bishop of Périgueux, with his troops in the castle of Plazac. He was unable to conquer the castle, but his soldiers entered the courtyard, stole and injured many men. Part of the church and the castle were damaged. In the middle of the 15th century the church was reconstructed and enlarged. In 1455 the deputies of the state under Périgord met in this church.
